It’s time the Ontario government enabled convenience stores to sell Made-in-Ontario beverage products. Allowing stores to sell Made-In-Ontario beer, wine and coolers will support the province’s hard-hit producers. Local businesses need it. Ontarians want it. The government promised it. We're ready.

Dear Premier Ford and Minister Bethlenfalvy:

The time has come to expand beverage alcohol to convenience stores because it will support local craft producers of beer, wine and coolers. These small, Ontario-owned and operated businesses are located in virtually every community and need your support to help them grow after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ontario’s convenience stores want to support these small businesses and exclusively sell Made-in-Ontario beer, wine and coolers through 2022. With 8,500 locations, the province’s convenience channel can break down the barriers to entry and help Ontario’s local producers achieve a reach far beyond the current retail market.

The ability to offer new products, like beverage alcohol, will also allow convenience stores innovate and spur economic recovery. Late last year, your government did something similar for restaurants by allowing the sale and distribution through take-out or delivery. This change has been met with positive reviews and was made permanent. Modernizing alcohol laws is good for businesses and provides greater choice to consumers.

This is an opportunity for your government to show that you stand with Ontario’s convenience stores, wineries, distillers and brewers. Now is the time.
